This guide is the big picture, the overall view, but if you want detailed information on what to see, where to go, where to eat, where to stay go to my (Not quite) Complete Guide to New Zealand Travel

Where to stay, where to eat, what to see.  Yes, all that.  But much more. It is aimed primarily at self-drive travellers and they need to know much more.

The problem is how to deliver this information in a logical way - and I have decided to serve it up as the road rolls under you.  That is, the information is given kilometre by kilometre for each of the state highways.

It is a work in progress. And so far it has been seven years in the making.  It is far from complete, but if you are touring NZ you may find it useful.

Gliding  in New Zealand

Gliding in New Zealand

The following is a listing of gliding operators arranged, more-or-less, in geographic order starting in the north. The description of each operation is supplied by the operators themselves.

Whangarei District Gliding Club Gibbs Rd, Puhipuhi.  Whangarei Gliding Club flies every weekend and public holidays, weather permitting. We have NZGA Qualified Instructors for training new Pilots. Trial flights are our speciality. Enjoy panoramas of the Bay of Islands, and inland Northland.   Experience the thrill of a winch launch to 1500 feet above ground, to soar majestically in air currents generated by the sun.

Piako Gliding Club
Waikato Region
Take your first flight in a glider and experience the magic of silent flight. Fly in two seat glider with gliding instructor.

Nelson Hang Gliding Adventures
8 Brook Terrace, Nelson
Hang Gliding services including tandem flights and instruction in NZ's sunniest region. After a 4 wheel drive into Nelson's mountains you can hook in as passenger on a dual hang glider and enjoy views which only the birds see. What a beautiful way to see Nelson.

Antigravity Hang Gliding Ltd.
507 Malaghans Road, Dalefield, Queenstown
Antigravity uses a specially designed microlight called a Dragonfly to tow (aerotow) you and your pilot into the sky. This is tandem hang gliding at its best! You are taken to an altitude of 3900 ft above the valley - where the glider is released from the tow plane and you and your pilot can fly freely over the amazing Cardrona Valley. Flight time is a guaranteed 20 minutes minimum.

Extreme Air

Flight Park, Malaghan Road RD1
Extreme Air is the only company in New Zealand that can offer you the option of hang-gliding or paragliding tandems, so depending on what sort of thrill seeker you are and the weather conditions at the time, we can cater the flight to your needs, scenic sensation, or adrenalin pumping joy ride. No experience necessary. Extreme Air pilots are accomplished competition pilots who have been ranked 1st in the world in speed gliding (John Smith) and best New Zealand female paragliding aerobatics. Our pilots have thousands of hours experience, so you can be assured your safety is in the best possible hands.
